I took my Dad to a press conference he gave with opera great Luciano Pavarotti when Trump owned a New Jersey casino hotel and I was a Trenton reporter. I covered a businesswoman who had a gallery in Trump Tower and was an unabashed loyalist. So, this isn’t about him or his opponent Kamala Harris. It’s about me and my fellow females who aren’t moms.
I love and have always loved being Aunt Marci. My sister and her husband have a grown son and daughter. I was on the phone with him Tuesday and my niece was just here twice. I married a man with a 6-year-old more than 43 years ago and I treasure my relationship with her and her family. We had shared custody like millions of other couples who remarried after divorce and didn’t start a second family. I’m close with my late best friend’s daughter who’s a seasoned public professional now. She made me a birthday party and she still calls me Aunt Marci. Most of the women in my generation had kids. We always socialized with family and professional colleagues when their children were young. Nobody left us out.
And I’ve never ever met a woman who substituted a cat for a child.
